高尔夫，俗称小白球，是一种室外*运动。个人或团体球员以不同的高尔夫球杆将一颗小球打进果岭的洞内。大部分的比赛有18洞，杆数越少的越优胜。英国公开赛、美国公开赛、美国大师赛和美国职业高尔夫球协会锦标赛是高尔夫球界的四大大满贯赛事。高尔夫球普遍被视为苏格兰人的发明，今日的高尔夫球18洞制度亦由苏格兰制定，当地亦有全球最历史悠久的高球会，被视作苏格兰国粹。那么，高尔夫的英语怎么说呢？  

  Realize Golf   认识高尔夫运动   Golf is a precision club-and-ball sport, in which competing players (or golfers), using many types of clubs, attempt to hit balls into each hole on a golf course while employing the fewest number of strokes.   It is one of the few ball games which do not require a standardized playing area. Instead, the game is played on golf “courses”, each of which features a unique design, although courses typically consist of either nine or eighteen holes. Golf is defined, in the rules of golf, as “playing a ball with a club from the teeing ground into the hole by a stroke or successive strokes in accordance with the Rules”.   Golf competition is generally played for the lowest number of strokes by an individual, known simply as stroke play, or the lowest score on the most individual holes during a complete round by an individual or team, known as match play.   The origin of golf is unclear and open to debate. Some historians trace the sport back to the Roman game of paganica, in which participants used a bent stick to hit a stuffed leather ball. One theory asserts that paganica spread throughout Europe as the Romans conquered most of the continent, during the first century BC, and eventually evolved into the modern game. Others cite chuiwan (“chui” means striking and “wan” means small ball) as the progenitor, a Chinese game played between the eighth and fourteenth centuries. A Ming Dynasty scroll dating back to 1368 entitled “The Autumn Banquet” shows a member of the Chinese Imperial court swinging what appears to be a golf club at a small ball with the aim of sinking it into a hole. The game is thought to have been introduced into Europe during the Middle Ages.   “高尔夫”原意为“在绿地和新鲜空气中的美好生活”。这从高尔夫球的英文单词GOLF可以看出来:G―绿色；O―氧气；L―阳光；F―脚部活动。比洞赛是两方之间对抗的比赛。也就是说，球员成绩的好坏以及比赛的胜负只对参赛的双方发生影响，与其他人无关。比洞赛是逐洞进行的。比杆赛*的特点在于，全场所有的选手同时参赛，大家都在同样的发球区出发，打同样的球洞位置。*，谁在规定轮数内的杆数*，谁就是获胜者。
